In autumn 2021 I joined Utrecht University as a Lecturer in Economic History. Before this, I spent two years as a Lecturer in Economics at the University of Bristol. I completed my PhD in Economics from the University of York and my previous higher education at the London School of Economics and the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.

My research focusses on the role and interplay of geography and institutions in determining long run economic development. I use historical data and GIS mapping to analyse patterns of development across Asia and the Indian subcontinent in particular. More broadly, I am interested in the fields of development economics, economic geography, economic history and political economy.

I have considerable experience teaching across economics, history and methods courses.
